Horsemanship with Mj
Mary Jo Irvine-Turnbull
Intructor/Coach/Owner
Since I began my and coaching career in 2004 I have had the privilege of helping numerous students develop foundational skills, learn new techniques, and confidently progress in their horsemanship journey. Teaching and learning are not just my passions they are essential parts of my life. With over 30 years of professional experience, I am committed to continually expanding my knowledge to provide the best support and instructional services to my clients. My personalized approach guarantees that, regardless of your skill level, I can help you grow and achieve your goals.
I have always been passionate about working with individuals of all ages, including challenged youth and those with intellectual, physical disabilities, and mental health disorders. I firmly believe that horses can positively influence an individual’s life and support their growth and learning.
I strive to create horsemanship programs that nurture every learner’s dream and desire to work with these incredible animals. My goal is to develop programs where all learners, regardless of their prior experience with horses, can enhance their understanding and confidence by not only riding but also building relationships with them. I teach at each student's pace, using foundational natural horsemanship principles and a progressive approach to help learners develop their horsemanship skills and riding confidence step by step.
Having worked with children and adults with special needs for many years, I can design supportive lesson plans tailored to their needs! Additionally, as a former military member, I can offer specialized classes for veterans. Feel free to contact me for more information!
I conduct lessons to help cover the care of my small herd of four horses and, of course, because I love sharing my passion for horses and teaching both kids and adults to be safe and confident around them. I often take in horses to recondition and find new homes, and occasionally have horses available for part lease as well. I work full-time, and my schedule can be flexible at times. I strive to maintain a consistent lesson schedule, but occasionally we may need to adjust lessons. Thank you for your understanding and patience during those times.
I look forward to working with you!

Welcome to my horsemanship journey! Growing up on a small farm Indiana and later moving out west ignited my passion for horses in the early 80s. a wealth of experience ranging from wilderness guiding in Wyoming to managing breeding programs and equine events, I am dedicated to helping aspiring horse lovers become respectful and responsible riders. Inspired by mentorship from top trainers, I incorporate the principles of natural horsemanship and centered riding into my teaching, ensuring a sustainable and fulfilling relationship with these magnificent animals.
